You cannot break the strap just by swinging or playing with the Wiimote, it is physically impossible. My guess is that everyone who claims to have broken the strap actually was playing without a strap, threw the controller somewhere and did some damage with it, and then tore the strap on purpose afterwards in order to fake an insurance claim.
