Wiimote still not finalized?

The Wii’s controller is perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Nintendo’s new console. It’s provocative design attempts to break the barriers that separate gamers from non-gamers. At this years E3, Nintendo showed it off and the overall response for it was good. But in an interview with Famitsu, Shigeru Miyamoto hinted that the Wii controller might not be finalized.
We’re still debating on the area of how many buttons to use.
The comment was made while responding to a question on the difficulties that Nintendo encountered while designing the Wii controller. It might be that he was simply saying that Nintendo was having trouble deciding how many buttons the controller should have. But it’s also possible that Nintendo still hasn’t finalized the controller yet. We’ll have to wait and see as more details are revealed.
Miyamoto also touched on the Wii in general. He noted that just like the DS’ PictoChat, Wii will also come with functionality right out of the box. The Wii’s on board memory can be flashed with updates much like the PSP to add new features. “However, we’d like to avoid relying on this and have everything included from the start.”
