Wii to Launch during TGS?

According to Executive Editior of EGM (Eletronice Gaming Monthly) Shane Bettenhausen, there is a chance that the Wii MIGHT make a surprise lanuch on the first day of the Tokyo Game Show, thus the Wii would rule Japan (since the DS already has such a huge market). Check out this part from his blog,

“So, if Iwata & co. really mean business this fall, they should have their event and announce the official Wii price (likely between $175 and $250) and also announce that the Wii will be available in Japan on Friday, September 22nd–the first day of TGS. Megaton strike! Fanboys faint. We all awaken Friday morning to Wii marketing plastered all over Tokyo and chaotic crowds of salarymen, kids, and housewives fighting over the last copy of Wario Ware Smooth Moves. All us game journalists are too busy waiting in line to actually attend TGS. Sony am cry.”

Interesting eh? Make sure you check out his blog for the full read and fill free to post about it here, or on the fourms!

This is crap, the release is going to be reveled in September, but the Wii will launch in the fourth quarter which September isn’t a part of :|.

I think we can take ANY release news with a grain of salt. Make that an entire shaker of salt… If the trend has anything to say about it (case in point: Twilight Princess) we shouldn’t expect a U.S. release until well into 2007. Pessimistic or realistic? Only time will tell. And time is something Nintendo seems to think it has plenty of. In a nutshell, I won’t believe anything until I actually see the sucker on store shelves.
