Take-Two Ineractive to develop for the Wii

Take 2 LogoIt seems that Nintendo’s showing at E3 generated a lot of buzz about the direction of the company and the Wii. Looks like Take-Two Interactive, the folks who brought you Grand Theft Auto, are interested in developing titles for the Wii.

Looks like Take-Two wants to bring the 2K Sports franchise to the Wii. After seeing the Wii sports games, the company wants to expand its franchise to generate a new revenue stream and thinks that since it has really never worked with Nintendo before, it sees huge opportunity for the baseball series of the 2K lineup on the Wii. Company executives would also like to expand the other sports titles and possibly the new Table Tennis game to the Wii also. Unfortunately, I highly doubt the Grand Theft Auto franchise may never see the light of day on the console, but with the ever changing marketplace, Nintendo might want to break the mold and take a chance on it.

This is good for Nintendo seeing as though the 2K franchise has good quality games and also has a very attractive item, price point. The 19.99 dollar tag is a fantastic value and also fits in great with the Wii trying to be consumer-firendly with prices. If you can remeber back a little while ago, the price point was the nail in the coffin for Take-Two due to EA. EA could not sit back and watch a company undercut it that badly and soon after was able to secure exculsive licenses for NFL and other major sports, all but killing the franchise on XBOX and PS2.

Take-Two is hoping to have the titles ready for late 2007 or maybe early 2008. Thats quite a bit away but it is a good forcast on what is on the horizon for Nintendo. Wiispot.com will keep you informed on any developments from Take-Two.
