Looks like Super Paper Mario is kickin’ ass with the critics. High ratings all around, and with the little amount of time I’ve had with it I can’t help but totally agree. It’s a really cool, diverse game with tons of little treasures and great powers. Be sure to look here soon for a WiiSpot official review! For now though, check out the Metareview.
Begone, turn based battles, I’m welcoming the more platforming elements - very reminiscent of the traditional platformers with some really great RPG integration. Be warned though - You’ve got a TON of reading ahead of you with SPM. While this should have been a Gamecube game, and easily could be, this easily earns its 85+ rating. It’s a reason to play your Wii again.

I completely agree. I’ve been hooked on this game ever since it came out. I never got into the last Paper Mario game on the Gamecube - Paper Mario : The Thousand Year Door - because I hated the turn-based battle system. I actually began to dread coming up to any enemies. This is much more action-packed without the tedium although there is a lot of reading, but the writing is sharply written, even satirical on pop culture and the gaming community. Overall, the ratings that’s been given to it are appropriate. The game is not without its flaws, but this is the must-have game for the Wii right now up until the next big Wii title.
You guys are lucky, in the UK we have to wait till July for this game to come out….
Paper Mario games are awseome i own the second paper mario and i am going to buy Super Paper Mario and download the first paper mario for my wii. I HOPE they make a forth one.
I’ve been hooked on this game from the moment I picked it up! I’ve never been a huge fan of RPGs because of the turn-based fighting, but this feels like a perfect blend! The graphics are great…bright and colorful and just well done all around. This may be the first time a video game has made me laugh aloud because of the dialogue…how many times can you say that? I also have a couple friends and family members who are not gamers….at all….and they love it! So, well done Nintendo. Can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
Super Paper Mario is in hot contention with Zelda and Excite Truck for my favorite Wii game. I think I may even like it more then Zelda, as it isn’t so intense (I admit, I SUCK at Zelda games) and is more… fun?
The 2-D -> 3-D feautre is used in pretty clever situations, but in no means a reason to pick up the game. The clever mesh of RPG, and platforming elements is what makes this one a gem– plus, what else is there to play on the Wii now?
This game is so addicting that it’s not even funny.I can’t get my homework done without being reminded anymore!
