Pre-E3 Nintendo Conference

Nintendo’s Pre-E3 press conference is happening right now, and let me tell you now… this games look awesome. I’ll try to update this post with a few up to the minute entries, when something amazing is announced.

Almost right away during the conference, Nintendo shown off a great collection of game footage. Reggie also announced that there will be 27 games playable on the show floor, this was not the year to miss E3. :\ Below are some of the games that were shown, but many many more will be unveiled tomorrow.

They touched lightly on the hidden features of the Wiimote. It will contain a small speaker that will play game related sounds. For example, during the Zelda demo sounds such as the bowstring tightening and arrow thwipping came from the Wiimote. They also confirmed that the nunchuck does in fact contain motion sensitivity. The Wii will support instant on and off during games, using the power button on the console and Wiimote. Also it was announced that the Wii will have a built in web browser, a version of Opera.

First party Nintendo games shown/announced

3rd party titles shown/announced

  • Red Steel (Ubisoft)
  • Sonic Wild Fire (Sega)
  • Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles (Square-Enix)
  • Madden NFL 07 (EA)
  • Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam (Activision)
  • Rayman (Ubisoft)
  • Spongebob Squarepants (THQ)
  • Elebits
  • Fire Emblem
  • Dragon Ball Z
  • One Piece
  • Final Furlong
  • Gengoku Action
  • Dragon Quest Sword

It was announced that Legend of Zelda will be available at launch! We were shown about 10 minutes of game play, done solely with the Wiimote and nunchuck. The game looks amazing, can’t wait to get this on my Wii. There will be a separate version for the Gamecube and the Wii available on the same day. So the rumor that it would be one disc with added functionality was squashed, sorry Covert Operative.

Iwata took the stage and announced that the Wii will contain something called WiiConnect24. When you Wii is in sleep mode it is still connected to the network. Nintendo or third parties could push content to your Wii, or your friends could visit your village in Animal Crossing for example. This could have a huge effect on how we play games, imagine visiting your friend and leaving the email while they are at work. Amazing.

Those were the main highlights of the press conference. A minute by minute account of the conference can be found on IGN if you want more details. Nintendo’s own E3 page has been updated as well. The Wii E3 site has been launched and apparently you will be able to download a video of their conference straight from Nintendo. Of course, you can always get it from GameSpot or something…
