No recharging included with the Wiimote

WiimoteThe Wiire got a chance to chat with Lance Barr, a Nintendo industrial designer, about the Wii’s controller. According to Barr, the Wii controller will run on standard AA batteries and will be able to accept alkaline or rechargeable lithium ion batteries. Although lithium ion will last longer, Nintendo has chosen only to include standard alkaline batteries because they are less expensive.

Barr also touched on the Wiimote’s battery life. The Wiire asked him if the battery life for the Wii controller will be on par with the WaveBird GameCube controller’s. Sadly, his response was “Absolutely not.” The Wii controller will be sending significantly more data than the WaveBird he explained.

Hopefully the increase in data transfer won’t impact the battery life too dramatically.
