New Opera for Wii details revealed
Published by ZephyrWest 3 years, 1 month ago in News.
In an interview with Scott Hedrick, Executive Vice President of Opera for Devices, Cubed3 managed to extract some details about the Opera web browser being built for the Wii. I’m not a big fan of using any computer program on a TV display let alone a browser, but some of the ideas presented in the interview are pretty intriguing. Many of the questions asked were received without a definite answer but here are the main points.
- Opera will be embedding into the flash ROM of the Wii. No cartridge is necessary.
- The browser will not include any ads within the browser.
- Opera Software is working closely with Nintendo to perfect the navigation system.
- Opera for Wii will be able to execute web applications built on technologies such as AJAX (Google Maps for example).
- Opera will support all the same web standards that the PC and Mac version do however plug-in support for Flash and other technologies have not been announced.

So wait, will it e part of the system? or do you have to buy it?
It will be part of the system. Hence “Opera will be embedding into the flash ROM of the Wii.”
Imagine playing certain flash games with the wimote. Sounds sweet. I hope they put a flash plug in.
I'm having a problem installing Opera 9.02 on FC5.
Every time I try to run it, it comes back with a “unable to find software information” error.
When I try to run it from the command line, I get 6 conflict errors.
I must add that I already have Opera 8.54 but I close it down before I try and run it.
