Hot Titles Postponed?

The folks over at CVG have apparently been in communication with “reliable” sources close to Nintendo, and the word on the street is that a few of the really key titles that were slated to be released in early 2007 may be pushed all the way back to Q4, probably just in time for Christmas next year!
We’ll have to see what really happens with these release dates, but the news is that we’ll be waiting quite a while for: Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. CVG went ahead and contacted Nintendo about the rumors and this is what Nintendo had to say for themselves:
We never confirmed a date for Super Mario Galaxy, but I can confirm that Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and Phantom Hourglass will all release in 2007. We can’t confirm an exact release date for any of these titles at this time.
Not such good news for all the Mario, Metroid and Zelda fans out there!
I actually found this news particularly interesting when you combine it with an interview that Newsweek held with Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime back in October. N’Gai Croal from Newsweek pointed out the fact that Nintendo has a history of delaying their key titles, making gamers wait unordinately long period of time for their favourite games. In the end, Reggie comes out and says that we can expect to see these titles ship early in 2007… keep in mind that this interview was conducted in October.
NEWSWEEK: So are you willing to make a “Read my lips†pledge right here?
Reggie: I thought I just did.
NEWSWEEK: All right. I’ll be checking in with you when these titles actually ship.
Reggie: [Chuckles] Exactly.
I suppose we’ll have to wait and see who actually has their dates correct here. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going to put my money on CVG!

Ditto.
I still can’t wait for Super Mario Galaxy, though.
It looks really fun!
